📚 Understanding Burnout

What is Burnout?

Burnout is a state of emotional, physical, and mental exhaustion caused by excessive and prolonged stress. It was officially recognized by the WHO in 2019 as an "occupational phenomenon."

The Three Dimensions:

  • Emotional Exhaustion: Feeling depleted and overwhelmed
  • Cynicism/Depersonalization: Feeling detached from work and people
  • Reduced Efficacy: Feeling incompetent and unproductive

Common Causes:

Excessive workload, lack of control, insufficient rewards, poor relationships at work, lack of fairness, and value conflicts between you and your organization.

Recovery is Possible:

With proper support, boundaries, and lifestyle changes, people can recover from burnout. The key is recognizing it early and taking action.
