About Print Resolution & DPI

DPI (Dots Per Inch) determines the quality of a printed image. Higher DPI means more detail and sharper prints, but requires higher resolution images.

When to use 300 DPI

  • Professional photo prints
  • Close-up viewing (albums, frames)
  • High-quality magazines
  • Art reproductions

When 150-200 DPI is acceptable

  • Large posters viewed from distance
  • Banners and signage
  • Canvas prints with texture
  • Wall art in large rooms

Tip: The viewing distance matters. A poster at 150 DPI looks great from 3 feet away, but the same DPI would look pixelated on a 4x6 photo held at arm's length.
