How to Read Resistor Color Codes
4-Band Resistors
Most common type. Two digit bands, one multiplier band, and one tolerance band. Typical tolerance is 5% (gold) or 10% (silver).
5-Band Resistors
Higher precision resistors. Three digit bands for more accurate values, plus multiplier and tolerance. Common in precision circuits.
6-Band Resistors
Includes temperature coefficient band. Used when resistance stability over temperature range is critical.
Reading Tips
Hold resistor with tolerance band (gold/silver) on the right. Read bands from left to right. The gap between multiplier and tolerance band is usually wider.
