Important: Sizing Variations Between Brands

Shoe sizes can vary significantly between brands and even between different shoe models from the same brand. These conversions are based on standard international sizing charts and should be used as a general guide.

  • Athletic shoes (Nike, Adidas) often run smaller - consider going up half a size
  • European brands (Italian, French) may have narrower fits
  • British sizing differs from US sizing by approximately 0.5-1 size
  • Foot width also affects fit - some brands offer wide (W) and narrow (N) options

How to Measure Your Foot

  1. Prepare your materials: Get a piece of paper larger than your foot, a pencil, and a ruler or measuring tape.
  2. Trace your foot: Place the paper on a hard floor against a wall. Stand on the paper with your heel against the wall and trace around your foot, keeping the pencil perpendicular.
  3. Measure the length: Measure from the wall (heel) to the tip of your longest toe. This is your foot length.
  4. Measure in the afternoon: Feet swell during the day, so measuring in the afternoon gives a more accurate fit.
  5. Measure both feet: Most people have one foot slightly larger than the other. Use the larger measurement for sizing.

About Shoe Size Systems

US Sizing

The US shoe size system is based on the Brannock Device, invented in 1927. Men's and women's sizes differ, with women's sizes typically being 1.5-2 sizes larger than men's for the same foot length. For example, a women's size 8 is approximately equal to a men's size 6.5.

UK Sizing

The UK system is similar to the US system but typically runs about 0.5 to 1 size smaller. Men's and women's sizes in the UK use the same scale, unlike the US system.

EU Sizing (Paris Points)

European shoe sizes use the Paris point system, where each size represents 6.67mm (2/3 cm) of shoe length. This system is unisex, so men and women use the same size numbers. EU sizes typically range from 35 to 50 for adults.

Centimeter (Mondopoint)

The Mondopoint system, used in Japan and some international standards, measures foot length directly in centimeters or millimeters. It's the most precise method as it corresponds directly to actual foot measurements.
